Trails and Tribulations

Huddersfield Report written by Saul Muldoon

GoodGym Huddersfield were at Oakwell Hall for the second Saturday in succession. This week we were working with mountain bike advocacy group Ride Kirklees to help maintain the mtb trail.

We shoveled stones and barrowed gravel to help build up and resurface worn sections of the route. Thanks to the efforts of Kati Law, Ben Godfrey, San Kapil and myself (plus all the other Ride Kirklees volunteers) the trail will now be flowing s lot faster for all the its users.

San Kapil earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

San completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, San was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

On your Dyke!

Huddersfield Report written by Saul Muldoon

We were riding bikes and digging dykes today for our Community Mission this morning. Teaming up with Ride Kirklees, the local mountain bike advocacy group we spent a couple of hours in the sunshine clearing draining ditches/dykes to help prevent a section the popular Wessenden Valley bridleway from flooding in the future.

Well done to GoodGym first timer San Kapil and old timer Ben Godfrey who both pedalled to the job, it was good to also see Zena and Steve Whalley who hiked to the spot. Cracking effort all, our labours will help make the Wessenden bridleway more accessible and drier for the many hikers, bikers, runners and riders who regularly use this popular route.
