This evening I headed out to help a vulnerable older person by cutting back an overgrown hedge and tree that had begun to obstruct access to their property.
I was welcomed by Ms B’s carer, who showed me the areas that needed attention before I got to work. Armed with shears, loppers and plenty of enthusiasm, I carefully cut back the hedge and trimmed the overhanging tree branches, creating a much clearer and safer route to the property.
The transformation was immediate, with the entrance looking tidier, brighter and much more accessible.

Today I helped Ms D with a surprisingly demanding decluttering mission. The job was to clear out a few bookcases packed full of years' worth of paperwork and written work, then carry it all down two flights of stairs to the bins.
There were plenty of trips up and down the stairs, and by the end I felt like I'd earned my cardio for the week (and possibly next week's too).
The good news is that 2 bookcases are now empty, the paperwork has been responsibly disposed of, and Ms D has a lot more space to enjoy. However the task also required the disposal of two more smaller shelves of paper work, so we’ll return to complete the task as I ran out of time today!

Trimming hedges will allow visiting professionals (carers, GP, nurses, social worker) unobstructed access to the home to provide Ms B with essential care. This will help ensure that her basic needs for food, safety, and medical care are met.

Ms D has recently undergone heart surgery so is unable to raise her arms and do this task. This would make Ms D more comfortable in her recovery.
