Shaken, but not stirred.

Mon 23 Aug
Report written by Liz James

Pete, Karen, Samina and Liz met outside the Queensbury. Unfortunately, the pub wasn't open this evening. We weren't shaken, just a little extra weight for our run. Liz led a short warm-up before we set off for our run.

At the task, Philip, Sabina and Danny were awaiting our arrival. The instructions were to pull the weeds, shake the weeds and drop them into the bucket. (No stirring required). At first it appeared like a long task, but everyone worked really hard and soon cleared a large section of the path.

Time for a quick photo shoot before running back. We didn't quite make it as far as the Queensbury. We finished our run outside Papagayo with some stretches and a cool beverage.

This week we head back to Harlesden Town Garden. We'll meet Philip who will outline the task at hand. As you can guess this will be gardening based. It's a ~3km run each way.

We'll still be meeting at the Queensbury but please find everyone on the outside area in front of the pub. You can still leave valuables but we will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside - do be prepared for the weather!

If possible please bring your own gardening gloves too!

UnbeWEEDable Evening

Mon 16 Aug
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

Once again we met at the Queensbury ready for a Monday full of running and weeding! What more could you want on a Monday night??!

This week it was Clitterhouse Farm that needed our help. Pete led the way on the 2.25km run via Cricklewood, and we were met by Anika who showed us how to remove the sticky Willy that was taking over the wild flower garden, as well as removing the weeds all over the path. With seven of us hard it work, we managed to remove buckets of the stuff before it was time to head back to base...after a team photo and a quick stop at the Buggingham Palace.

We ran back to Willesden Green where Sabina led us in a thorough a cool down incorporating a number of great stretches.

*Great work team !!! *

Foodbank Clear-up

Fri 13 Aug

PLEASE NOTE: For these sessions the task owner now asks that volunteers have a negative LFT (lateral flow test) from within 48hours or they have the tests available on site if you forget or don't have one

North Paddington Foodbank is currently based out of St Luke's church on Fernhead Road, near Queen's Park station.

The task will run every Friday evening from 5.30pm and go no longer than 6.30pm. Do ensure you turn up on time to ensure that you get a chance to help with the activities a there is a chance that after 6pm there may be little or no work left to do.

They really need our help as every week they have to pack the foodbank away as the church then needs the space for it's weekend activities.

Come and join this community mission and help the essential service.

The foodbank needs to know how many volunteers will be joining a week in advance so please only sign-up if you know you can make it and let me know as soon as possible if you do have to pull out.

Moving and Painting for WELLesden Day

Mon 2 Aug
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

Six goodgym runners met for the second group run of 2021. After a small warm up and a big hello to CJ from Camden, we ran a speedy 2 km to Brent Mencap where Ian greeted us with his task list.

We have helped Mencap many times over the years and the garden is a great community space that is looking the best I have ever seen it ... other than a half finished path and some old doors that needed a lick of paint ....and thats why we were there !

With not much time to spare, he explained what was needed to help finish off their garden and we set to work.

CJ and Helen had the fiddly but very important task of laying down weed membrane to separate the soil from the gravel path that was being laid. Pete then brought the gravel wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow to the path and added the gravel ...getting through a whole ton of it !!! I raked it out to ensure it was even and flat. Sabina and Samina had the tricky job of deciding which colour to paint some doors, and then started painting . Once the weed membrane was down Helen joined them so we brightened up three doors in total .

Ian was grateful for the help and now the garden is ready for WELLesden day, we are all invited and further info is linked here

After completing the jobs and tidying up Ian showed us the pumpkins and cucumbers that were growing and gave us a deliciously sweet tomato to try. Then we ran off back to the Queensbury for a cool down stretch and a cooling drink Great to have everyone back and looking forward to next week !
