On Saturday 6th March, our GoodGym runners descended on Project Ravensgard - a supported living housing project - to help to tranform their overgrown grounds of a beautiful house into a safe haven for residents to enjoy over the spring and summer months.
They dug, they chopped and they shifted the earth to clear away the brambles and bushes and reveal a fantastic space that will soon become a BBQ, sensory and social area.
And all the spring sunshine!
Stockport Together is a volunteer led community group working to bring organisations together to support the community off Stockport during the current pandemic.
Project Ravenscroft is the renovation of an old house which has been successfully converted to provide 10 supported living apartments.
They currently have no funding and are relying on volunteers to help to create a safe space for the tennants to relax and socialise in the warmer months by transforming their garden into a tidy place with sports, sensory and seating areas.
Our task will be to cut back the existing shrubbery (lots of upper body strength!) and create the space for the residents to use the area safely.
With the January Challenge well under way, the GoodGym Area Activators discussed ways we can engage members across all areas, on some bigger training sessions.
One of our ideas was a weekly GoodGym (not) parkrun, to be hosted by a different area each week, but open to GoodGymers from all areas each week.
I happily volunteered GoodGym Norwich to host the inaugural GoodGym (not) parkrun, with a rather large helping hand from Melanie Young at GG Bristol for organising the results.
I've inlcuded any photos that were sent to me. If you'd like your photo added to this report, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Trussell Trust Foodbank Challenge
Running from Saturday 21st November to Sunday 29th November The Trussell Trust Foodbank relies on community support and goodwill. Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food and toiletries.
Our challenge is a 'donation dash'!
Pack a rucksack of donations, run/walk/cycle to one of the designated drop off points in and around Stockport and drop it off then run/walk/cycle back and self log your deed. Remember, the heavier the donation, the harder the workout!
The Manchester 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness
12.00pm Wednesday 18th November to 12:00pm Thursday 19th November Complete a run/walk at any time during this period and submit your activity to Strava.
The overall aim is to reach a combined total of 1407km - the distance between Land's End to John O'Groats, and raise funds for the A Bed Every Night charity to support rough sleepers in Manchester.
Register your interest below and let's get running and don't forget to log your deed!
The Iron Man Challenge
Once the 'plogging' mission is complete, the next part of the challenge is to collect any of our 'plogged' crisp packages and package them up, ready to be sent to a wonderful man, known simply as The Iron Man.
Keep them safe and our mass GoodGym collection will be sent to The Iron Man who will magically turn our collected waste crisp packets into gleaming and warming blankets for the homeless!
Let's plog together, alone!
Between, Friday 13th November and Friday 20th of November ,the Community Mission is to run/jog/cycle any distance, and pick up litter as you go!
Don't forget to self log as a GoodGym deed.
*What is plogging? Plogging (Go Plogging), literally jogging and ‘plocka upp’ – picking litter – is quite simply cleaning up while you exercise. Coined by Swedish native Erik Ahlström, who created the website www.plogga.se, all you need is a pair of gloves and a recyclable bag!
Rory completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Rory was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.
