Winner winner chicken dinner!

Sun 18 Apr
Report written by Rob Wilson

Beautiful sunny morning at the Garden House, Marple. Lisa and I, along with a very dedicated team of feathered friends!, transformed the raised beds from a carpet of weeds to fresh soil. One large hen ‘Beatrice’ with a healthy appetite for worms became our close companion! We mucked in and topped it off with some fresh manure all ready for planting up! Was great to see so many young families enjoying the nature and farm animals there. Nice! : )

Making the Garden House a home

Sun 18 Apr 10:00 am
The Garden House, Lakes Road, Marple, SK6 7DH
Helping to maintain the land at a community farm

The Garden House aims to provide a safe space in the Cheshire countryside for families and local organisations, and in particular, groups and charities who cater to children and young adults with complex needs.

They also work tirelessly to raise awareness of green issues, as well as animal welfare and mental health and relies entirely on donations from visitors, organisations and local businesses. As it covers around 27 acres of land, running adjacent to the River Goyt, there is plenty of green space to be maintained.

We'll be digging, weeding and cutting shrubs back, and be rewarded with a hot drink in their community cafe!

'Leaf' it looking better!

Mon 14 Dec
Report written by Rob Wilson

We 'Raked' until we 'Baked', working alongside the friendly volunteer group of Didsbury Park. Armed with wheelbarrows and tools we raked, shoveled, and chatted our way through a thick layer of leaves to reveal the green grass of Didsbury Park! Our hard work was rewarded with the most generous of festive buffets. Lovely!

Didsbury Park, Gillbrook Rd, Didsbury, , Manchester, M20 6WH
Helping to maintain Didsbury Park for the community to use

Fancy giving the Friends a f Didsbury Park a helping hand with woodchip and weeding?

Due to lockdown, the park is in need of some TLC to maintain it over the winter months. There'll be shovelling, digging and weeding aplenty.

And a warming brew at the end!

The meeting point is the centre of the park, next to the Victorian Shelter - look for the hi vis vests! Bring a pair of gloves.

It doesn't rain, it pours

Mon 26 Oct
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

This morning's Polyanthus planting session at Disbury Park definitely wasn't for the faint hearted or fair weather runners!

4 hardcore Goodgym runners attended, armed with rain macs, fleeces and plenty of positive energy to battle the rain and help The Friends Of Didsbury Park to replenish the flower beds ready for a Spring explosion of colourful blooms.

The rain pelted, as we planted. And after a succesful 90 minutes, our tremendous efforts were rewarded with a warm drink!

Make the bed (but don't lie in it)

Sun 18 Oct
Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

The Garden House Marple has become a regular Sunday session and we are chipping away at the vegetation patch of the farm, transforming it ready for the planting to begin.

Today's task was to move the earth in the raised vegetable beds. We dug, we raked and we overturned. We think we succeeded!

We're looking forward to more sessions and seeing the transformation unfold, week after week!

Make your bed (but don't lie in it)

Sun 18 Oct 10:00 am
The Garden House, Lakes Road, Marple, SK6 7DH
Helping to dig out raised flower beds at The Garden House Marple

The Garden House were so impressed with our GoodGym runners' orchard tending taskwork that they would like us to be a regular feature to help with some of their more strenuous tasks!

The Garden House is a beautiful Community Farm that aims to provide a safe space in the Cheshire countryside for families and local organisations, and in particular, groups and charities who cater to children and young adults with complex needs. They also work tirelessly to raise awareness of green issues, as well as animal welfare and mental health.

The task of the week is to put our back into shifting the earth and preparing their wonderfully crafted, timber raised flower beds ready for their allotment vegetation.

They are also kind enough to provide us with warming drinks ... If you need any temptation out of winter hibernation!

Bring gloves!

A colourful explosion of beautiful blooms to Didsbury Park

Polyanthus are some of the most popular varieties of bedding plants around if you want to bring brilliant colour to spaces in autumn and throughout the spring.

So, to brighten the community spirits and the aesthetics of Didsbury Park, the task (alongside the Friends of Didsbury Park) is to plant an abundance of beautiful blooms that will explode with colour over the bleak autumn months.

The meeting point is the centre of the park, next to the Victorian Shelter - look for the hi vis vests! Bring a pair of gloves.
