Getting fitter being a little litter picker

York Report written by Nicola Gover

On a much less stormy night, we gathered again to pick up where we left off at Acorn Rugby Club. We spread out, with some heading round the block again and others heading over to the edge of Hob Moor, which proved very fertile hunting ground.

Very soon we had made our bags too heavy and headed back to get ready to run. After gathering the troops, we took a quick photo and went on our merry ways (woo, sprints!). Debs stuck around to finish off her pick, having arrived a smidge late, and managed to find a rather alarmingly large knife (safely stowed and notified to the police)! Cleaner and safer streets tonight!

Meanwhile Laura and David set off from home to pick around Poppleton Road, David still being a bit poorly, and managed another good haul.

The Kinky King's Path

York Report written by York runner

Four York GG-ers braved the increasing winds (and a bit of rain) to join Gordon back at the King's Path wildflower meadow. Our job today was to create a brand new path from a fence (where they hope to eventually put in a gate) across to the main path. We welcomed Estella to her very first GG task!

We laid out the planks of wood for the edging roughly 1 metre apart (or a shovel's width as we decided that would do!) and some speedy spade work ensued, creating narrow trenches for the edging planks. Once the planks were in position, the wood chip was wheelbarrowed down the path to create a nice, soft surface. We created a somewhat kinky-shaped path (or rustic as we at GG York like to say) up to the wood chip pile when we ran out of time. We will be back soon to finish off the last few metres of this new path so that it joins up to the main path.

Creating a pathway at the Kings Path Wildflower Meadow

It will enhance this green space, especially for the residents of Lincoln Court which is adjacent to the site.
