Having a wheelie good time at GoodGym

Warwick & Leamington Spa Report written by Katherine (she/her)

6 GoodGymers returned to Russell's garden centre in Baginton on a beautiful sunny day to help with the final pile of shredded Christmas trees that were collected after Christmas to help raise money for Myton Hospices and Pass the Smile for Ben.

This task involved shoveling shredded Christmas trees into wheelbarrows and then transporting them along the paths of a maze to the central area where the chippings are being used to act as ground cover to control the weeds.

Having done this task a few times before we were all starting to feel confident that we now knew our way through the maze without too many wrong turns, until a spanner was thrown into the works... Given the pile of chippings was in a different location to last time we now discovered the most efficient way to get to the middle was to take a completely different route through the maze that we had never used before - who knew!! This task tested our navigation skills as well as our physical skills as we tried to remember the new route through the twists and turns of the maze.

We also discovered the world's largest rake which seemed to be 3 times the size of any rake we had seen before, making the spreading of the chippings once in the maze a piece of cake!

Talking of cake, we then retired to the garden centre cafe where we had a lovely impromptu social talking about sustainability, marathons, air quality, languages and generally put the world to rights!

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning and it was so lovely to meet Archie who returned for his second GoodGym session, showing extra dedication (and thought for the environment) by getting the bus to the task.

Sweep and retreat

Coventry Report written by Laura P (she/her)

8 Goodgymers ran 4.5km to Spencer Park to support the Friends of Spencer Park with maintaining the tennis courts. Our task for the evening was to try to sweep up the moss and twigs so that the well-used tennis courts are ready for the season and the warmer weather!

Once we had finished sweeping as best we could, we paired up and did a 'meet and retreat' session around the tennis courts to help us get ready for all of those summer PBs!

Welcome to GoodGym Archie it was lovely to meet you this evening and welcome back John good to see you after a few weeks off!

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
