Spreading that can do attitude!

Wed 19 Jan
Report written by Katherine Mills

5 Goodgymers set to work helping LWS Night Shelter this evening with sorting the generous donations that have been collected over the Christmas period through their reverse advent calendar campaign.

Spread across 4 separate storage containers, the first task today was sorting tins into different food types and putting them into crates to enable them to be stacked up and more neatly packed. James was going veggie, whilst Amy ruled the carnivore section. Nigel found his sweet tooth and set to work sorting the canned fruit, whilst Philip was on crockery duty sorting the cutlery, food containers and cups.

Not quite the heavy workout session that we had last week, but biceps were still flexed with carrying heavy crates and lots of bending down will no doubt be noticed in our glutes tomorrow.

We've made a small dent on this huge task but we just know it will be so satisfying when it's done. We will be back!

Sorting donations for LWS Night Shelter

Helping a fantastic charity that supports homeless and vulnerably-housed people

Welcome to GoodGym Warwick and Leamington Spa! We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet regularly to get active and do a physical task to help the charities, community organisations and projects in our area.

The Task:

LWS Night Shelter provide hot meals and food parcels to homeless and vulnerably housed people in Leamington Spa. Over the festive period the lovely people of Leamington generously supported their Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign, providing the charity with lots of donations to support their great work.

They have asked if we could help them with sorting these donations to ensure that best before dates are adhered to (so that nothing goes to waste) and making it easier for their kitchen volunteers to plan meals over the year to come.

This is an indoor task so please ensure you have a face mask (unless you are exempt) as otherwise you will not be able to participate.

Despite being indoors, the storage units are cold, so dress as though you will be outside with a warm coat and a hat/gloves if you prefer.

The run/walk:

For this task we will meet at the task location so a run will not be involved this week. The roads near the task do not have pavements and so it would not be safe to run there in the dark as a group. However, the task itself will still be a good workout with lots of boxes to lift and move!

Where to meet

Meet in the car park of Squab Hall storage on Harbury Lane, Leamington Spa.
