Laura has done a 6 month mission streak. Sun 19 Dec 2021

Laura just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Laura a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Brunswick Pathfinding and no Cosies Sunday Lunch

Sun 19 Dec

Time for a bit of a Commish/social mash-up at one of our new favourite places :-)

It’s a lovely space but doesn’t have a big friends group to look after it so we’re continuing to lend a hand to Di and Jo who think we're amazing (obviously).

The spiral is taking shape - the shape of a spiral. There’s more to find and lots of other path to uncover, too. We’ll even have the tools we acquired from the Emmaus Great Tool Sorting.

You’ll want gloves and any hand tools you have that you can safely run or cycle with. We’ll have the litter pickers, too, as it’s an area where needles are left so we’ll check areas first with the pickers.

It’ll be nicer. But we’ll still be hungry.

forking pipeworks - what a hol-ey good time!

Sat 16 Oct
Report written by Bristol runner

Eight runner set out for another mission at the Haven. This place is truly magical... nicely tucked away in the depth of clay bottom, the allotment is hard to find, even for people who have been there many many times (myself included)...

Tim and newest goodgym recruit Deya got so lost that a stranger gave them some bananas and kindly pointed them in the right direction. Once the team was finally reunited, we split up in three goups.

Laura and Julie tackled some nettles whilst Russ, Steve and Stuart cleared the ground to make room for the foundation of a new hut soon to be build. The rest of us cleared a overgrown area which looked more like a jungle than a plant bed. With eager hands we dug deep and removed some unwanted horseradish and weeds. One Goodgymer struck not gold but water, which sadly was not to a moment of joy... it soon become clear that a newly installed waterpipe had been hit... ironically the every same pipe had been installed on a previous goodgym task... The organisers took the incident with lots of humor (thankfully) and were grateful for our help despite adding on more work at the end of their day...

We promised to help to repair the pipe and will hopefully be allowed back to redeem ourselves!

All mishaps aside, we had a great time and it was great to welcome Deya on her first mission.

Cheers, Sarah

Gardening at The Haven in October

Sat 16 Oct 11:00 am
Haven Community Garden, Wainbrook Drive, Clay Bottom, Bristol, BS5 7EG
Helping establish the therapeutic gardens

Another lovely session at the Haven for 2021. The garden is tucked away under the old railway bridge just east of Eastville Park. EastEastville, if you will.

We’ll be helping with a series of gardening tasks to keep the garden going

Location wise: it’s here - go right to the bottom of Wainbrook Drive, keep going all the way to the hedge at the end by the bins. Look right and you’ll see a (unlocked) steel gate to go through an arch in the old railway viaduct. Then straight ahead along the wood-chip path to The Haven. There’s a sneaky path from Royate Hill, too.
