Saddled with cleaning a bit of tack

Newcastle Report written by Anji Andrews (she/her)

After 4.5 years of GoodGym Newcastle its rare that we get a completely unique task and tonight that's what we got!

8 GoodGymers including Kaz who was along for her very first group run gathered for some Monday Goodness at Stepney Bank Stables and Paul with very tired legs was delighted to find nobody wanted to run tonight!

After a catch up on a busy weekend and an even busier week ahead, we headed down to the stables right at our base Stepney Bank where task owner Sara had tasked us with tack cleaning- something new and would turn out to be very therapeutic! Each horse has its own tack to clean and they range from glitzy to patterned to pretty plain.

Sara showed us how to clean them carefully using warm water and saddle soap and we got to the task in pairs. This is a job that needs to be done regularly as the horses are in action every day at this brilliant community stables. It was a really satisfying task that will make a difference in saving time for the task and volunteers at Stepney Bank.

We headed back upstairs to our base room for a Pilates, breathing and relaxation session (check out Charlotte's great photos of this!) before going across to Arch2 for a Monday social to celebrate my 200th good deed. Big thanks to Louise for bringing Grasmere gingerbread (yum!) and to Lucy for bringing her dog Milo afterwards to give me some kisses.

Loads going on this week, hope to see you soon!

Three is the magic number

Newcastle Report written by Charlotte Proud (she/her)

I was joined by Kaz and Max for a lovely cold but still evening on the Quayside. We met at the Cycle Hub and went for a leisurely walk along the Quayside and around Ouseburn.

Myself and Max spent time clearing random finds out of a hedge (pizza boxes, beer bottles and some full cartons of orange juice found by Max)

We then went to some land in Ouseburn where we had been last year with the Ouseburn Trust. We made a great team as we cleared so much rubbish (about 6 full bags in total)

Join us again on Monday as we head to Exhibition Park, meeting at the Bandstand at 6.15pm

Keep on moving!

Newcastle Report written by Charlotte Proud (she/her)

It was really cold (3 degrees) but that didn't stop the enthusiasm!

A massive well done to Jane and Kate for their first ever GoodGym good deeds!! (especially on such a cold evening) I was also joined by Kaz, Dan, Phil, Debbie and Tanya.

Find of the day goes to Debbie who found an Asda shopping basket.

The theme of the night was just to keep moving, lots of fast walking, some running on the spot, star jumps as well as running up and down.

We collected 8 full bags of litter which is absolutely brilliant. We probably could have continued!

Double vision

Newcastle Report written by Charlotte Proud (she/her)

We had a lovely evening down by the Quayside/Ouseburn. I was joined by Liz (her first GoodGym good deed!!) Eleanor, Kaz, Louise and Dan.

We set off from the Cycle Hub and had a leisurely walk chatting all the way whilst collecting lots of litter.

Initially we couldn't see any rubbish but then found a lot as we made our way up through Ouseburn. I randomly found a some reading glasses and then shortly after Elanor found some too!

Random find of the day was the longest cardboard tube (which we couldn't really do much with!)

I didn't take many photos as it was a bit cold. We will be returning next week so it would be great to see you there if you can make it.
