Helping a friends group with clearing paths in a Park.

Tue 8 Jun 18:45 pm
Pavilion Sports & Café, Albert Road Recreation Ground, London, N22 7XL
improve the area

We will look to support The Friends of Albert Recreation Ground (alias FARRG is a voluntary not for profit community group made up of local residents working for the whole community.) The Group was founded in 2001 by a number of local volunteers with a keen interest in delivering improvements and involving the local community in its future. Meeting Emma

We will help widen the paths by clearing the over growing grass. Meet at the cafe inside the park. We can look at coordinating a run from a nearby location. Please make a comment below if interested. (limited numbers for SD) Maybe run from Ally Pally?

Help The borough with vaccinations

If you are interested in helping through this scheme please register here and tell us through the comments below how you got on so that others can be encouraged.

The Covid-19 vaccination programme is underway and as part of the Boroughs response to Covid-19, Volunteering Barnet is supporting local GP surgeries and pharmacies across Barnet to recruit and deploy much needed volunteers to support the roll out of the Covid-19 vaccine to members of the public.

Barnet Environmental Project Micro Forest.

Sun 30 May 10:30 am
Not Known, ???, ???
Helping to create new habitats for wildlife please register

Goodgym Barnet are looking to help develop several small protected plantings of trees through Barnet. ( A Micro Forest)

A Micro Forest is a dense and rapidly growing native woodland in a small area. It will provide a protected habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, filter the air of harmful particulates and reduce flooding and soil loss.

Besides these important local effects, it is symbolic of our need to protect our wider environment and it is hoped it will provide an education and emotional engagement of our community. It’s also something that we will have to physically nurture as a group. Its a great fit for Goodgym!

These initiatives are gaining popularity across the UK, with organisations like EarthWatch and The Conservation Volunteers getting involved.

The Council is interested in the project but we need as many people as possible to support the idea. For the moment please register your interest here and we will keep you up-to-date with what is happening as a rolling community mission. If you have ideas about how to promote this to the community please also get in touch. We want schools, community groups, artisans, news media and others to get involved.

Thanks to Daniel Mermelstein for introducing the idea to Goodgym Barnet.

Feel good & shot in the arm for Barnet!

Fri 30 Apr
Report written by Paul Salman

Well done to those that volunteered that managed to assist Barnet with its vaccination program over the last month.

here is what Jackie had to say

Did my Barnet vaccine shift today. Checking people in on an Ipad at the door. Free Lucozade and hot chocolate. It used to be a running track. Now it's a mass vaccination hub.

Can’t be bad!.. A shot in the arm for Barnet!

Help close a charity park

Wed 30 Dec 15:45 pm
Stephens House & Gardens, 17 East End Road, Finchley, London , N3 3QE

Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

help keep costs down for charity park

Stephens House and Garden need someone to assist with closing the park at 4pm. This will involve 20 minutes of work (with the park gardener Josh) advising the public that the park is closing. Somebody local or if someone wants a one off mission to see a beautiful park in Barnet. Once the grounds of a wealthy Victorian family now held in trust for the people of Finchley. This a charity 'pocket park' (not council) and relies on volunteers and self generated income) Come to main house (opposite a zebra crossing Eastend Road N3) and ask for the Steward and he will give you the bell. You then just need to go around the park ringing the bell and telling people the closing time. You may not see the gardener. Please return the bell before 4pm. Max 2 people required. Why not arrive early and do a few laps around the park? Invite a GG friend to join you? Cafe and toilets on site.

Jennifer has done a 6 month mission streak. Fri 4 Dec 2020

Jennifer just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Jennifer a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.
