Not All Heroes Wear Capes - Goodgym Norwich Help the Soul Foundation

Fri 12 Mar
Report written by Norwich runner

On Wednesday 10th March all of the pupils at The Clare School took park in a Superheroes Sponsored walk to raise money and to say a huge thank you to the Soul Foundation.

The Soul Foundation have been supplying families at The Clare School with food boxes throughout the pandemic. The Clare school smashed their original target of £500, then we decided to go for £1000 and now as of Saturday we have reached an amazing £3241.20p! You can catch the event reports on both ITV Anglia and BBC Look East catch up!

The Norwich Goodgym have been to the Clare school on a few Community Missions and were asked by Hayley, who works at the Clare school if they would have a go at running up some miles!!

Not only has there been running this week 8-12th March but the have also -

  • cleared up a huge amount fly tipping
  • tidied the hedgerows of litter
  • smashed personal running targets
  • Cat yoga and cat weightlifting!
  • Taken care of the environment and getting fit by lifting 20kg bags of organic fertiliser!
  • Aiming high by running up and down steps to keep fit!
  • Puddle jumping, hopping and testing their balance by balancing bananas!
  • Keeping silent (2 hours hard for our chattiest member!)
    • Walking backwards around the park
  • Running and sharing our purpose for the Clare school and Soul Church

All of this including doing Goodgym Norwich Community Missions where they helped local ogranisations complete their work for the community!

Goodgym Norwich have travelled 80 miles for the Soul Foundation from 8th-13th March.

Thank you very much everyone! We have worked with the Soul Foundation before, so you know what great work they do. Thank you for donating, adding miles and fun and celebrating the achievements of our pupils.

Grabbing the Bull (Close Road) by the horns

Tue 9 Mar
Report written by Fraser Mashiter

The final GoodGym run delivering Fine City Neighbours postcards across the Golden Triangle left me with a few dozen leftovers (courtesy of those blocks of flats that never answer their buzzers!) While I can't make the group runs that are now delivering throughout the Silver Triangle, I wanted to get the postcards used up, so Hitch let me know of a street in the ST with the right number of addresses for my leftovers. I went for a lunchtime run today to visit Bull Close Road, with enough postcards to do most of the properties between the primary school and the Leopard pub.

Walk/Run/Swim/Bike to raise money for Superheroes!

Fri 12 Mar 10:00 am
The Clare School , South Park Avenue , Norwich , NR4 7AU
Show you can go the distance and help Superheroes!

please note we are not meeting, this is a virtual challenge 8th-12th March!

The Clare School pupils are learning about Super Heroes this half term. As part of their learning, inspired by others who have been completing great challenges, they wanted to try to raise money for some of their very own Super Heroes, Soul Foundation who have delivered the families of The Clare School with over 1000 boxes, providing over 47,000 meals.

The week 8 – 12th March is going to be when we will all be trying to walk/push/crawl the miles.

The pupils are aiming to travel 500 miles during the week and hoping to raise £500. Some pupils will be completing real miles, others will be undertaking ‘Clare School’ miles - maybe pushing their own wheelchair the length of the corridor, or crawling the width of the hall. For our home learners, they may be completing laps of the garden or lengths of the lounge. We will be walking, pushing, crawling, using our walkers, stepping using standing slings, however we move, we will be trying our hardest and pushing our own abilities to the limit.

Please support us to achieve our goal to say thank you to our real life Super Heroes. The Soul Church have been so generous this past year and have really supported our pupils and families. Unquestioning and reliable, they have really been there, if you would like to help us donate £500 for them you can do so here -

Fine City Neighbours postcard delivery - Norwich Covid Response

Mon 22 Feb 17:30 pm
The Forum, Millennium Plain, Norwich, NR2 1TF
It will help inspire them to connect with their neighbours and understand where they can access support and inspiration to do so.

GoodGym Norwich have teamed up with the Fine City Neighbours project and we have 20,000 postcards that need delivering to people's homes throughout January and February!

These tasks will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

You'll collect postcards from Hitch or a Task Force member outside The Forum anytime between 5.30-6.30pm, where you'll be allocated a street or number of streets from our list and then run/walk/cycle to that location to deliver postcards through people's letterboxes.

There should be no need to make contact with people in their homes, but if someone does open their door while you are making a delivery, remember to maintain a 2m distance while speaking with them.

This task should be done individually, with a member of your household or in pairs if you wish to work with someone outside your household, while keeping 2m apart as per government advice.

Bring a head torch and possibly other running light equipment if you have them. Also wear bright reflective clothing.

Fraser Mashiter has completed 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Mon 1 Feb 2021

Fraser has already done 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Instead of doing anything else, they've used their run to go and help people that need their help; digging, lifting, scraping, clearing, planting and weeding. Stuff that makes this a better place to be.
