Winter Sunshine Workout

Mon 22 Nov
Report written by Linda

Another beautiful day for working at the SHP allotments. First job was to test out the strimmer kindly provided by the GGR Street Taggers (yes we know we use at our own risk) it cleared a path right from the shed, up and down all the beds round two of the pear trees and part way to the redcurrant bush before the battery gave out. It might not sound a lot but for a domestic tool being used on its highest speed it was quite an impressive distance.

We then picked up the cuttings plus a load we had cut back last time, trimmed the brambles around the path to the water butt and around the compost area. Ed revisited his job of securing the hasp on the shed to make it even more secure. He then hoed up a bit of ground to help feed the resident robin and we were on our way.

Switch To Manual

Sat 13 Nov
Report written by Linda

James and Linda decided to visit the SHP allotment today rather than tomorrow. Owing to the last minute change of date the battery operated strimmer (yes we know we use this at our own risk) had not been charged. We had no idea how much charge it had been given before it left the manufacture (turned out about 10 mins worth) but from what we saw, once fully charged, it’s going to do a great job.

Eddie and Sharon also had last minute changes of plan and decided to join us. Switching to manual tools Eddie continued to clear the path to the water butt and shifted some compost. James and Linda started clearing the grass from near the strawberry plant and think we may have started to uncover another planting bed. Not only that Linda uncovered a beloved tool she had lost at her visit before last. Sharon set about a little light pruning.

Despite being let down by the tech we think we made a bit of a difference in that hour. James cycled home and Sharon walked off in her quest for Street Tags for the GGR Street Tag team.

Light Bulb Duties

Mon 8 Nov
Report written by Linda

Nice gentle little jobs at the SHP allotments this week. Linda popped in a few bulbs that the task owner gave her last week while Ed fixed another hasp and clasp on the shed for extra security…well it will be more secure once we find another padlock to use on it.🔐

Boxing Clever

Mon 1 Nov
Report written by Linda

Another lovely Monday morning for an allotment task. Ed had pre-prepared sections of a raised box for planting and put it together in the green house. Linda cleared the area around the strawberry plant and cut back some more of the brambles from the water butt. Good to see the SHP group had been in last week, they had planted some onions, repaired the shed roof and reorganised its contents. Little by little we are all beginning to make a difference there.

We Have You Completely Surrounded

Mon 18 Oct
Report written by Linda

Today we transported the remaining prepared wood to the site and Ed completed the third and last of the borders around the areas to be planted. Meanwhile Linda carried on with de-grassing the area at the back of the shed being careful not to disturb the task owners beloved fennel this time. 🌺 🪴
