Society of Painted Edges!

Portsmouth Report written by Maxine VSG

And we're back! 7 GoodGymers weathered the storm to meet up at Society of Saint James - Charlote impressed us all with her dedication to running to a task, as she arrived soaked to the bone!

After a quick catch up with Erin and a round of teas to warm up, we went upstairs to find our two old rooms looking unrecognizable with all their desks & decorations in place! (See photos from last week here).

We split up into three groups, Sarah & Maxine tackling the edging in the office, Catherine & Charlotte doing the same in the counselling room, and Val, Mel & Judy getting started on the big group room with a turquoise feature wall!

We will be back most likely next week same time (confirming with Erin before posting) to finish off the group room and move on to other walls - we're invested now! (And well, Sarah will probably be perfecting trims and edges in the first two rooms!! :D)

A Palette Of Blue!

Portsmouth Report written by Portsmouth runner

Arriving a little damp, we were met by a very cosy, warm room and an offer of drinks and biscuits. Then upstairs to view the two rooms needing to be painted. Erin from SSJ had some rollers, palettes and a few brushes to get us going and we quickly sorted ourselves into two groups. Sarah got busy with the masking tape to give us lovely straight lines, Alex, Catherine, Maxine and Mel got rollering and Judy and Charlotte did the careful brush painting round the edges. In each room, there was a signature blue wall, a lighter colour on the other walls and white around the skirting boards. We made great progress with just some edging to complete. Another task is scheduled to complete this and move on to the next room in the near future.

Don’t call us, we’ll call you

Portsmouth Report written by Samantha Belfrage

Charlotte and I met outside Mrs Js property in the pouring rain on a very chilly evening and luckily for us we received a very warm welcome. Mrs Js phone had not been working for 3 weeks, which made her anxious as she couldn’t contact her brother. After a couple of false starts, you know turn it off and back on again, pull the cord out and plug it back in we collaborated with Mrs J and gave her broadband provider a call. We found out their was a fault on the line. Whilst chatting with Mrs J we noticed she was paying a large monthly bill so told her to ask the provider to check she was on the best tariff for her usage, she wasn’t and they were happy to switch to a better deal for her. The engineers should be out within 48 hours and hopefully then Mrs J will be back in phone contact with her brother. I feel tonight’s session really has had a big impact for Mrs J and she was very grateful for our assistance. We asked Mrs J to take a photo of us and she took a cheeky selfie of herself first!

Fix a phone for Ms J

This will reduce Ms J's anxiety and put her back contact with her brother who lives in Kidderminster. He is her only living relative left and it is distressing her she is unable to call him.
