Graffiti, your days are numbered!

Wed 10 Aug 18:45 pm
The Windsor Castle Pub, Bath Road, Maidenhead, SL6 4JT
Our first ever graffiti removal task

#WednesdayNightIsGoodGymNight and this Wednesday we're having a go at something new on our group run/walk. RBWM have given us some 'easy-off' graffiti removal kits and its time to press them into action.

All the graffiti pictured in the photo on this listing has been spotted between Maidenhead's Windsor Castle Pub and Kidwells Park. We'll meet outside the pub to welcome everyone and warm up, then we will jog and walk towards Kidwells, cleaning up as we go. We'll take some litter pickers too just in case.

The route is downhill and less than a kilometre, but runners will have the option to add on extra distance if desired. In the park we'll hunt for more graffiti to clean up and do some fun fitness too before we return back up the hill to our start location. Since this happens to be a pub you are welcome to stick around after the session for refreshments.

Everyone is welcome at GoodGym. You can choose what pace you run or walk and we will always make sure no one is left alone. The fitness session will have low impact options as well as higher impact and the emphasis is always on having fun and working together to do good. If you're thinking of joining and have any questions then you're welcome to contact Area Activator Amy at amylovell@goodgym.org.

Can't wait to see you there!

More watering and some weeding

Thu 4 Aug
Report written by Kanika
she/her

Four GoodGymmers returned to the allotment for our weekly visit to water the produce and fill the water butts. Anita, Nicola and Diya went about swiftly watering the plants and then took up some weeding and hedge trimming towards the back of the patch. Meanwhile, Kanika tackled the weeds in the Spinach bed to clear it out for the next batch to be planted. Until next Thursday... 👋

#WednesdayNightIsGoodGymNight and Area Aactivator Amy is away this week, but that won't stop us GoodGyming! Join Sophie for a great upper body workout trimming the hedges and strimming the edges of the pitch at Holyport Football Club.

In case you need any more persuading to sign up, rumour has it a Taskforce member might also be leading a fun fitness challenge AND Holyport FC are well known for providing amazing snacks.

The meeting place for this session is the residential road Westmead, from the end of which there is a small path that leads to the football club. If you are running late please contact Sophie on 07969 162628. There is limited parking here so please arrive on foot or by bike. Watering and hedge trimming

Thu 28 Jul
Report written by Kanika
she/her

Anita, Diya and Kanika met at the Maidenhead Community Allotment this evening for the regularly scheduled Thu evening sessions. While Anita and Kanika went about watering the mostly dry beds, Diya continued the hedge trimming she started last week. All done, Anita rolled out a wheelbarrow as all three went about clearing the trimmings waiting for the water butts to fill.

The Graveyard Shift!

Wed 27 Jul
Report written by Rachel Moynagh

Eleven Goodgymers signed up for tonight’s task to continue the clear up of the Vale Road Cemetery. We met in the car park at the Pirate Park in Windsor slightly dismayed by the inclement weather, but that soon passed as we greeted Michelle to the group.

From the car park we moved ( some more reluctant than others !! ) towards the Clewer Recreational Ground where we spent the first part of the fitness session doing fun exercises including the ministry of funny walks and some dance steps, lots of laughter was had by all.

We paired off and ran or walked the inner circuit of the park, meeting our partner with 10 squats or 3 burpees.

Then we were off to the mission, we all decided to walk the short distance; the dead giveaway that we were in the right place was the mountain of black bin bags full of ivy and brambles.

Sue, the task owners met us and led us to the end of the cemetery where we split into groups, one clearing ivy from graves and the other filling large hippo bags of ivy and brambles. After a hour of weeding with no grave mistakes and all the ivy covered our time was up!! We were all twigger happy and lined up for a team photo.

With our spirits risen we returned to our meeting point to say our goodbyes and wish Amy a very happy holiday.

Cemetery Tidy Up

Wed 27 Jul 18:45 pm
The Pirate Park, Dedworth Road, Windsor, SL4 5BD
Help local residents tidy up the Vale Road Cemetery

#WednesdayNightIsGoodGymNight and this evening we are excited to be heading to Windsor. Our help is needed to tidy up Vale Road Cemetery, and we will make the most of the nearby park to do some running or walking and fun fitness before the task.

The evening kicks off at 6.45pm in the car park for the pirate park/Clewer Memorial Rec. If you're new to GoodGym, look out for a friendly group wearing fitness gear and red GoodGym t-shirts. We will start with a welcome and warm up before running or walking into the park for our fitness session, which has been designed to cater to all fitness levels. We will stay in sight of each other and make sure we have a back marker so no one need worry about getting lost.

Next up, we'll walk or run the short distance to the cemetery on Vale Road, where we will meet task owner Sue and get stuck in to weeding and tidying up the area. We will need to be careful not to disturb nesting birds but with many hands we still hope to make a big difference in a short time.

We will then head back to our start location for stretches and goodbyes.

Can't wait to see you there!

A less blue Monday

Mon 25 Jul
Report written by Nicola
she/her

We were back at All Saints Junior School to continue with the hallway paint job started the previous week. Armed with brushes and rollers and joined by honorary GoodGymers Emma and Lisa, we were able to add another coat of white to the walls, which are definitely looking less blue than when we started!
