Alan Cunningham has has earned their community cape by completing their first community mission. Tue 20 Apr 2021

Alan completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Alan was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Alan Cunningham has done their first good deed with GoodGym. Tue 20 Apr 2021

Alan is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Clear space for bums on seats

Tue 20 Apr
Report written by Alan Cunningham

Great turnout and after an hour or so of hacking, raking and slashing we even discovered some benches. Among the weeds on the raised beds were revealed two dozen empty beer bottles, a case of two of sundry cans and the usual quota of crisp packets. But disappointingly, only one weapon; a short handled, fixed blade knife. Andrew, our mentor for the evening's mission was unimpressed, having unearthed a number of knives, a gun and a samurai sword while on various clear ups in Southwark. This evening there was a rumour of some support coming from our site's adjoining corporate neighbour, Unilever. But sadly the half expected box of 'Magnum' ice creams failed to materialize....! Never mind. We all felt that a positive difference had been made and the gentlefolk of Kingston now have a highly desirable seating area on the sunny banks of the Hogsmill.

Whippet the new recruits into colour

Sun 18 Apr
Report written by Rob Haworth

What a gorgeous morning to welcome a whole bunch of new volunteers to the secret community garden, tucked nicely behind King Athlestan school, along the Hogsmill River. Finding it was the first challenge, remembering the colour coordination of the whippets to be planted was the next.

This obviously presented no challenge for us, as before not too long we were done and looking around for more work. A large area of weeds was the obvious choice and a perfectly sized challenge for us to handle. Brian, the task owner, showed off his worm farm, and proudly dug through the rotting fruit bin to find some of his plump and juicy red worms.

Before we knew it, 2 hours were up and lunchtime in the pub for some beckoned. Thanks for all who turned up, really great to meet a whole bunch of you for the first time, I really dig your style!

Weed clear for a Seat

Tue 20 Apr 18:30 pm
St James's Rd, Kingston upon Thames , KT1 2BA
Help clear the space from vegetation to reveal a seated area in our community

Ready for a little clearance work in a seating area just off Wheatfield Way on the one way system?

It's a project Good Gym tackled once before and we removed huge volumes of litter from a fairly Jurassic looking part of Kingston to reveal a perfect little spot to rest and watch the world go by.

The litter isn't too bad this time, but could do with some vegetation trimming back.

It's our Good friend Andrew from I.D Verde who has volunteered to help and asked if we could assist him so just bring your gloves as he will have all the tools etc.

His number if you need him on route is (0) 7890 999 314

The location is Wheatfield Way (Just next to the roundabout by Kingston College and very close to the Guildhall). Location marker is here: https://goo.gl/maps/7oQq33CdeUjMCS8u5

Nearest postcode would be KT1 2BA we think. It is tucked away but if you follow the location marker map you will see it is on the roundabout almost. You will find a little entrance in amongst the hedge. Opposite side to the college. Unilever building is right next to the plot!
