Thorland Gardens is the first community market garden in Camberwell for fifty years, set up by Thorlands TMO Commitee.
They need 8 volunteers on for some gardening support.
The task will be to clear up the greenery, dig out roots and help build up the hot compost. So there is plenty to do!
- Please remember to bring your own gloves
- If sharing tools please wipe down between uses
- Adhere to social distsncing measures at all times
Please be aware of any sharp brambles when pruning or collecting up leaves. Wear appropriate footwear and be careful to avoid trip hazards throughout the venue.
As things are opening up after lockdown, GoodGym have been invited back to Surrey Docks Farm.
They haven't had much help over the last few months, so there is plenty to do.
Hope you can join us and say hello to the pigs, goats and cows again!
3 GoodGymers turned up for Old Alleynian's Rugby Club day of volunteering. Parents and their children along with other members of Rugby club came out for a day of "Summer Cleaning".
Abi and Sam met up with Ian, who helps out at the Rugby Club, but has been to two GoodGym events before. He gave us two sheers and directed us clear and trim back the hedges that were overgrowing onto the public pavement. Abi and Sam got stuck in with Abi (being taller) taking the longer sheers to cut down branches whilst Sam dealt with twigs...
Eventually, having been lost in a sea of volunteers, they saw Frances for the last 30 minutes of the volunteering. She decided to stay with them and finish off the job.
Ian kindly offered them to stay and enjoy the burgers and hot dogs they were cooking up on the grill for everyone who gave up 2 hours of their day to help, but we were all too busy to stick around. Next time!
We are returning to Beautiful Balin to help give this space a bright new summer look, and we have PAINT!
We are going to add a bright new colour to the garden rails, now the old paint has all been scraped off.
We will be working in pairs to cover an individual area of rail each. The rails are 60m in total so there will be plenty of space!
OAFC Alleynian Rugby is taking part in NatWest RugbyForce 2020, a nationwide programme developed in partnership with England Rugby which provides an opportunity for rugby clubs to open their doors to their local communities, team members and volunteers to help make improvements to their clubs ahead of the return to rugby. The aim is to improve the appearance of the club inside and out by carrying out much needed repairs and upgrades to the club’s facilities, so that the Club is ready for the new season.
Our task will be to clear the overgrowth on the bottom parking area, cut down dead trees, and level access to the parking area.
6 runners met Rosanna outside the Salvation Army Hostel, an assisted living hostel for young people. She wanted our help clearing up the weeds in the hostel garden because it was getting unruly!
Lucky for us the rain stopped for the task and we got stuck in. There were plenty of discoveries, bright yellow tomatoes and a potato that looked like a shark! Best though was Abi's discovery of the rake! She'd never used one before and thinks she has found a new calling 💪🏼🌱
We had a great time and hope to be back soon
They need some help to clean up the garden, weeding and cutting it back.
Please help us stick to Covid-19 guidelines by bringing your own gloves, cleaning tools between use if sharing, and keeping to a safe 2m distance.
The next time you see Abigail, they might be wearing black instead of red. They've completed 50 good deeds with GoodGym and have earnt their black t-shirt. Give them a nod when you next see them.
It was another glorious day down at Surrey Docks Farm. Or it was this morning anyway, we weren't so blessed with the weather in the afternoon.
Not to be deterred, a hardy group of goodgymmers convened by the river to make sure the vegetables got weeded and the goat poo was swept up.
Special mentions to Marzena, who came on her first good deed, and Abi who hit the big 5-0 this afternoon. Round of applause to you both!
Some more visits to the farm are in the pipeline, so watch this space.
A Tourist likes nothing better than exploring new areas and meeting new people, and that's what Abigail has been doing. Abigail has been to three different GoodGym areas now - nice!
