23 people ran between 4-7k to help clear and fill some pots, and dig a wildflower garden

On a clear but cold evening a pack of keen runners hit the streets of Camden to run and do good. After a brief warm up at Somers Town Community Centre we headed north towards Camden, running and chatting on the way up. At Camden Road we spilt- 11 people heading of to Castlehaven Community Centre and the remaining 12 making their way to Rochester Square Community Garden.

2 Tasks

*Rochester Square Community Space is a ambitious project run by a group of creative people. Their goal is to create a social hub for sustainable development - growing organic food, skill sharing, music, art and poetry events, crafts, courses, cinema evenings, talks/discussions, peoples kitchen cafe, hostel and more...phew. As you can see there is loads to do so its great we can help out.

*Castlehaven Community Centre are starting a new Gardening project- aimed at sprucing up the area and offering food growing opportunities for local people. They could really use some GoodGym muscle to get the project off the ground!

Power Digging and Bedford Rascal Filling

We hit both jobs hard- aiming for 30mins of hardcore work at each job. The gardeners went at it- digging along the side of the plot so a group of volunteer gardeners could start planting wildflowers the following day. The Rochester Group had a few interesting tasks- filling up a Bedford Rascal to send to the tip, shifting breezeblocks in a cart, and filling up pots with soil for different groups to starting growing food. Impressive....

Canal Run Challenge

After 40mins we had done loads so stored away the tools and headed back to the canal, readying ourselves for a team canal challenge. We broke into teams of three and chose how far we wanted to run (there were 3,4 and 5k options). Setting off towards Camden Market and Regents Street, each member of the team took it in turns to surge along the path- slowing down when they reached a chosen spot on the path until the team caught up and the next person surged. It was fun- this fartlek (or speed play to prevent embarrassment) was a bit of a fresh challenge and certainly worked a few runners hard!

Despite cold fingers and tired legs we all made it back to Somers Town elated after a good nights work. Nice one.
