Yesterday was Global Running Day, so what better way to spend one of the best days of the year than to get along to a GoodGym session and adding purpose to that run!

  • Welcome to Ugne who came along for her first GG Hounslow run!

Fancy a bit of GoodGym shaped socialising tonight?

Looking for a nice community mission this Saturday?

  • Look no further - there is a plogging event going on at King George's park where you'll have the chance to run or walk 2k or 5k. There's even a free tshirt on offer! Here are all the details

Our task last night was at the beautiful Chiswick House, which is a charity and has to raise over £1 million each year to keep the house and gardens open to the public. They rely on major trusts, volunteers, local communities and visitors to support their conservation work and keep it accessible to everybody.

So after a warm up we set off for the task, running through the beautiful grounds - we're so lucky at GG Hounslow to have this on our doorstep! That didn't stop us from getting a bit lost though, but through a combination of map reading, asking for directions and Natasha's excellent sense of direction, we made it to find garden manager Geraldine waiting to lead us to the astonishing kitchen garden. It was a real treat to be allowed access to it as it's not always open to the public, and it was really beautiful. Well, all but the 'pit of despair', as Geraldine called it.

Our job for the evening was to refill the pit with good quality top soil so it could be planted with a 'knot garden' -know what one of those is? Neither did we - but every visit to Chiswick House is a school day! We got straight on with the job, with Natasha and Jen (and Jim) in the pit with the rakes, while the rest of us barrowed, dug, spaded and shovelled (yes, there is a difference between those last two).

After a good 50 minutes of hard work, we had cleared one huge pile of topsoil, and the pit was not quite so despairing. After a quick look round the highly impressive and super organised shed, we set off back to the Italian gardens for our fitness session, which, as this was the first Wednesday of the month, was an intense core work out, featuring the newly favourite 'rolling balls' (don't worry team, I'll save the video for another time...!).

After a quick run back to base and some stretching, we called an end to global running day. Next week we're back at Chiswick House to do some more work in the kitchen garden. Until then, happy running!
