GoodGym tonight joined forces with 4 members of the Friends of Locke Park (FoLP) to garden in and around the Serpentine Walk area. We met them at the lock up to gather the necessary tools for the evening's work, then made our way to the valley where we would be working. The FoLP started work clearing out weeds and thinning the beds in the valley, GoodGym was assigned the job of weeding and sweeping the area inside the walled off statue of the parks namesake, Joseph Locke. This job needed attending to by GoodGymers as there are high walls to scale in order to access the area next to the statue and we have the capability to achieve this, whereas it's more difficult for the FoLP to leap these barriers.

Joseph had evidently not been keeping his room tidy as we had to sweep up a plethora of leaves from the floor, and dig out a load of moss from inbetween the cracks beneath. Never fear, GoodGym are here. By the time we were done with his area, it was looking like a freshly laid patio.

Whilst tidying up, we spotted the mother of one of our members running around the park with the Harriers. She couldn't stop to chat as she was being timed, but we had some wizzy words as she sped past!

Upon finishing the floor area, and snapping a couple of pics of our handywork, we hopped out of the concrete confines and rejoined the rest of the FoLP. They had been busy weeding and thinning out a big blooming bed. We helped to fill the remaining rubble sacks with the pickings pulled from the beds and dragged them further up the valley to be collected by the gardeners the following day.

Following this we wrapped up by gathering up all of the tools used and headed back to the tool shed where we bid a fond farewell to the FoLP... until Sunday! On Sunday we'll be heading back up to the park to oversee visitors to the amazing tower during the classic car show!
