Three Pigeons Plot Anytime Sessions week ending Sunday 28 June 2020

Sunshine and showers meant that is was quite hard for anyone to anticipate what they might be required to do when they arrived at The Three Pigeons this week. Here are our mini run reports:

Kate. Tues/Wed I on Tuesday to give a splash of water to the lobelia seedlings I'd planted on Sunday & to continue Tish's work with dead heading the sweet williams. I hadn't been working long when 2 passersby stopped to chat, they couldn't believe I was attempting to dead head the large patch, challenge accepted I set to work with added speed! I went back on Wednesday night to give the whole plot a drenching, it was about 9 pm but still very hot & low tide unfortunately. I had a couple of near misses falling in as the last few steps were so slippy. I also collected a whole bucket of rubbish, not normally that much litter about.

Anita. Thursday evening 6.30pm. 'Trug Love' I cycled down with two acid green trugs tied to the back of my bike and beach shoes on my feet, arriving just prior to high tide. Glorious evening sunshine, accompaniment from a busker and the odd cooling paddle as I collected water made for a tough but enjoyable watering session. I finished by tackling the last of poppies, a necessary but rather soulful task as they had been so beautiful just a few weeks ago.

Friday (am) Adam. Following the latest English heat-wave this week – I set off in earnest to see about providing some much needed watering to the Three Pigeons patch this morning. Sure enough, armed with a watering can and a bucket, I went about providing them with a soaking from water gathered from the River Thames. Once this was completed, I inspected the insect hotel where a dragonfly was examining progress so far.
Mission accomplished.

JP & Salwa. Fri (pm) 'Bucket Down!' On Friday afternoon after work, Salwa and JP headed over to the 3 Pigeons flowerbed for a maintenance mission. The site was looking transformed since the removal of the large swaths of poppies and brightly-coloured flowers were flourishing. The day had been a scorcher - again - so we brought a bucket to give the bed a thorough watering. However as we got going it started to bucket down, so we put the bucket down! We knew there would be further heavy rain overnight so we concentrated on removing stray dead poppies and weeds, tidying up ahead of Sunday morning's group session to work on the insect hotel.
