It was a hot one again and most folk were away on their summer hols, save a select few. Unfortunately, this session also happened to coincide with the YMCA's annual meeting so none of their members could join for the work.

Tasks at the allotment this month were dictated by the hot weather; we were asked to thoroughly water the whole allotment and fill up all of the water butts so that they would be ready for use by other volunteers.

On arrival at the site, the oven that is the metal container housing all of the equipment was opened up and the watering cans retrieved. The hose was found tucked away behind the container and was subsequently affixed to the communal tap up the path. This was then used to refill all of the giant water butts which were 'down, butt not out'! While the butts were filling, the two watering cans were used to thoroughly water all of the dry beds and fruit trees which had been sweltering in the recent hot weather.

Bedding down for the night

After everything was well-watered and the butts had all been topped up it was time for a short and sweet fitness session. 10 tricep dips on the springy benches supported by old car tyres, 10 pull-ups on the container and 10 elevated push-ups using the benches.

Fitness session done, tools were put away and locked up and it was time to run back to base where the usual array of stretches were performed.

Looking forward to the next (hopefully cooler) session!
