The Thin Clear Line

1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Haringey.

Sevan hot footed it across to Haringey after a morning at Horsenden Farm followed by a fresh pizza to power him through the afternoon. Ms B was having trouble with mould around her kitchen sink and after 7 years, decided that replacing the sealant around the sink was the best approach.

Sevan checked out the sink and there was missing sealant at the front with some mould under the lip, plus the sealant at the back near the tap had vanished too. The worktop there felt bumpy, so had probably absorbed some water.

There was a hardware store nearby, so Sevan explained that he'd need to buy some clear silicone sealant for bathrooms and a mastic gun to apply it. It was a short run there and back, while he left Ms B to pick away at as much of the old sealant as possible.

Twenty minutes later, Sevan was tooled up. All he needed was a 🔪 to keep working the old sealant away from the sink. The mission was mostly prep work and the sealant furthest from water, next to the draining board, was very stubborn.

While Sevan was working away, he and Ms B were chatting and he mentioned that he was from Ealing.

"I had another GoodGym helper from Ealing. A Polish woman. I can't remember her name" - Ms B

"Kash?" - Sevan

"That was it. She did a really difficult job of insulating my windows" - Ms B

"I know her. Did the insulation help this winter?" - Sevan

"Yes. It was a great help. If you see her, tell her that she did a great job" - Ms B

Kash had set up some high expectations. Sevan crossed his fingers that he could get the job done and get Ms B's seal of approval 🏵️

After 65 minutes the prep was finished and it was finally time to load the mastic gun, climb onto the worktop and put a thin line of sealant all around the sink. The space was awkward to work in with cabinets above and to the sides. Sevan managed to get the sealant all the way round and tidy up a few blobs before time was up. It should last a few years before needing a GoodGym return visit 🤞

Why is there no after photo? Well, the sealant was clear, so there really wasn't much to take a photo of.
