17 runners ran between 4-8k and helped Kentish Town Community Centre and residents of the Regents Estate at the same time

This Wednesday- on a lovely summers evening in Camden, 18 runners turned up to Somers Town Community Centre for a run.

We had 2 tasks to help with this week. The first was to help on a local estate garden in the Regents Park Ward, and the second was to run and help Kentish Town Community Centre to promote their fayre this weekend.

Run 1- the Regents estate

After a quick warmup on the edge of the bike path- drawing some unusual looks from passing cyclists, group 1 headed off to Regents estate. In true community spirit we managed to attract a couple of local lads on the way who joined in with the running. The fact that one of them was stuffing his face with a cone of chips did negate any benefit he gained from his brief sprint, but at least he managed to run with spilling them! When we got there we were put to work by runner Sarah- we sorted out the compost heap, weeded absolutely loads paths, and watered the plants, and gave a little TLC to a large bed residents had recently planted up in a local park,.

Run 2- Kentish Town Community Centre

5 Runners split off and run a slightly faster run up to Kentish Town Community Centre. They are running a Kentish Town Festival this weekend and wanted to promote it to local residents. It looks pretty exciting and seemed like a good cause for us to help with.

250 flyers in 25mins

We took around 250 flyers and set about dropping them into houses and shops all the way round Torriano Avenue and the busy Camden Road. Despite one rude brush off most people were glad to receive it and it little under 25mins the entire pile had disappeared. This gave us only 10mins to dash through Camden and get to our meeting place with Team 1, but we put on the burners and made it with about 17 seconds to spare.

Regents Park Fartlek

We finished the evening with a dash around the Regents Rose Gardens as a crew- speeding up and slowing down as we raced between various markers on route (mostly bins for some reason). We got back to the centre at 8.30pm on the date, providing a shock (not literally) to Bob who had his hands full sorting out the wiring in a plug socket.
