Tech yourself before you wreck yourself

I went round to help Mr. L with ONE tech issue today, and was in fact able to help with THREE! Raa!!

#1 Kindle

We got Mr. L’s new Kindle connected to his wi-fi, and then to his existing Amazon account, and were able to have a browse of what was on offer on the Kindle Store. There was a picture of the Dalai Lama on the wall, so as a test case I tried ‘llama’ to see what books he might have out. Turns out he spells his name with one ‘L’ so what we got were books about the grumpy Andean deer thing that spits at you – nonetheless proof that it’s working.

#2 Telephone

Mr. L could make landline calls through speakerphone, but not with the receiver. I noticed the wires to the receiver were coming away from the RJ10 at the receiver end, so I think it needs a new receiver cord.

#3 Music

Mr. L ordinarily has his laptop connected to his TV via HDMI to listen to music and such, but lately hadn’t been getting any audio though the tele. For some reason the ‘Speakers’ icon wasn’t in the taskbar, so I think wasn’t immediately obvious how to adjust audio settings on the laptop. I dragged the icon into the notification area so it would be there next time, and turned the output setting from the laptop soundcard to HDMI. Before you know it we were listening to ‘Give Yourself To Jesus’ by Aretha Franklin nice and LOUD!
