Today I joined Beth from the Canal and River Trust to do some work on our adopted section of the canal. As it was just the two of us, Beth decided that weeding the path leading from the entrance to the canal by Barker Bridge would be the most achievable job. So we got down on our knees to pull out the big weeds and scrape the mossy, low-level stuff out of the cracks with hand forks. After an hour, Beth had to go and visit another volunteering group, leaving me to do what I could by myself. On her return, we scraped a bit more and swept the remains into the overgrown bed, which will be the focus of our next community mission here. I then ran home while Beth kept busy as she headed off to visit another community group volunteering to maintain a section of the canal towpath.

Tiny forests provide flood mitigation, improved air quality, noise reduction near busy roads, havens for wildlife, and spaces for people to connect with nature.
