On a pleasant late summer evening, four of Goodgym Redbridge's finest runners met to battle rusty gates and ran 5km in the process.

With the light fading fast and the prospect of doing tasks in the dark, the Redbridge squad met to try and finish off a summer project at Wanstead House Community Association. Over the past two years we have painted fences, swept leaves and chopped back overgrowth. This year's project was to restore the rather rusty paintwork that surrounds the grounds - and attempt to bring some amazing gates back to their former glory.

The team have been working hard on the gates over the summer, stripping back old paint and applying rusty primer. It's been a tough job but we are close to finishing and the task was to put some nice thick coats of black hammerite on before the winter weather returns. With the team split in two - one team scraping, while the other painted - the gates were soon looking pristine and while not quite good as new, certainly much better than before.

With the task done - though we might need to have one more go at one of the gates - it was time to head out to Snaresbrook and Eagle Pond for our winter 5km route. Sadly, it is now too dark to run on Epping Forest but the winter loop still runs around Eagle Pond on a relatively quiet route.

Massive kudos to the team for all their hardwork this week! Check out the great photos from last night and why not sign up for some East London fun next week!
