After Tuesday’s impromptu litter pick in County Durham while out on a walk, I returned to the scene early on Thursday morning, this time armed with a litter picker and bin liner.
I don’t think I’ve ever filled a bin liner so quickly! It definitely took less than five minutes. What sort of person discards empty bottles of wine on the grass verge of a remote country road? I’m not sure, but at least three people had done so, unless one person was responsible for all of them.
This week’s two efforts have made that small stretch of road a little more tidy. How long it lasts given the sheer volume of litter, I’m not sure. Perhaps people are more prone to littering if they see lots of litter present already?
