Every Wednesday Camden GoodGym meet and run to a group in the community that needs help them with a physical task. We get a fun social workout- and they get help with a tough job. Double win! On this week’s Group Run we ran to help out at Camley Street Natural Park.

"Camley Street..is a beautiful spot and a great organisation to help out"

Camley Street is run by London Wildlife Trust. They do lots of great stuff- acting as a hub for community food growing projects across Camden and offers educational and play opportunities for local children. Its a beautiful spot and a great organisation to help out.

"Slaloming the barrows around the windy pathways was fun, unless you drew the short straw and had to push the flat-tyred wheel barrow"

Our task was to shift, barrow, and spread 2 tonnes of woodchip around the park’s pathways. Aided by some light drizzle to keep us cool we quickly set about our task- dividing into groups of ‘Barrow-ers’, ‘Rake-ers’ and ‘Dig-ers’. Slaloming the barrows around the windy pathways was fun, unless you drew the short straw with the flat-tyred wheel barrow...just think of the extra calories you burnt James! The supply line of ‘Dig-ers’ and ‘Barrow-ers’ swiftly fed Tom, Maggie, and Rachel, who raked and covered a good 150 metres of pathway. The pile of woodchip disappeared in under 40mins- Helen from the Park was delighted. It would have ordinarily taken a day to shift it!

That left us with 30mins for a great evening canal run. We broke into 3 teams- Hounds, Hares and...Hedgehogs and ran to 3 points on the canal. The Hedgehogs turned for home first, swiftly followed by the Hares with the Hounds running a little further along the canal. We all raced back to our starting point with each group trying to catch those in front. We flew past heckling teenagers through Camden market and dodged Boris Bikes along the path- all making it back in roughly the same time ( though the Hedgehogs just about took the honours). Great running everyone.
