Here's what Mrs A of SE4 had to say about the mission:

Yeah, really good thanks, mum's happier with it now. It had been a bit of a jungle out there! (Mrs A's daughter)

Mrs A of SE4, mission beneficiary

This morning's mission introduced me to Lewisham regulars, Nykolette and Bradley. They'd both been to parkrun this morning and so were wide awake and raring to go. In contrast, I'd had a vege fry-up and was finding it difficult to even waddle safely (it's become apparent that I'm using these Goodgym missions as a way of trying out restaurants in different locales).

Our job was to tidy Mrs A's garden, including mowing, weeding and some minor trimming/pruning, so we rang the doorbell and made ourselves known to the delightful Mrs A.

Familiar as I was with the pitfalls of mowing a lawn (see last week's mission report), and not having the confidence to not decimate perfectly healthy plants, I swiftly volunteered myself for weeding.

This proved to be a good call. Bradley took up the lawnmowing task and managed to get through about 90% of the lawn before the mower stopped working and smoke started emanating from the wiring. Luckily, nothing obvious caught fire. Although this is technically my second mission in a row in which the lawnmower broke (which is also every mission of mine involving a lawnmower), I'm reasonably confident that it's not due to some anti-lawnmower rays that I'm putting out 😅

The rest of the task was pretty straightforward. Nykolette (guided by Mrs A) pruned more than I've ever seen anyone prune before, Bradley spotted (and cleared) some bindweed, and I got attacked by a rose bush with a grudge against our work. We also found a crowbar in the bushes, which led us to wonder if we were in fact participating in a real-life version of Cluedo (for the record, it was Nykolette in the garden with the crowbar).

Bidding farewell to our lovely host, we deposited some of the garden waste we'd collected into her bins. Unfortunately there weren't enough bags for all of the pruning, so some was left behind in the garden. We started to head off into the distance, true superhero-style, before Brad-man found his Catwoman in the form of a (presumably) stray cat. We left him to continue the moment and to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day 😎
