Took a detour in my walk up to my “Coach” JJ to run an errand for Hubby, it made for nearly a 15k round trip by the time I got home. Must have looked a bit worse for wear as I was greeted with an immediate “I’ll put the kettle on” Once we had out tea and fancy double chocolate cookies I’d brought I felt a lot better. Conversation turned to how quiet it is on the close, JJ told me when they moved in 30+ years ago hardly anyone had cars, now the family of 5 Nextdoor have 4 cars and a house opposite with only two people have 3 cars. We had a little “when we were young” nostalgia chat remarking on how we walked our kids or used buggies and went on buses and trains when they were little. JJ remarked that public transport was so much better in those days with conductors on buses and guards on trains to help you with shopping and children. Today the attitude is get on if you can manage to find room or wait for the next one. Not all changes are for the good and this certainly is no good for the environment. 🙄
