On a wet and windy November evening, eight members of GG Redbridge met to make Wanstead High Street a prettier place and run 9km in the process.

Wanstead High St is a lovely place and Wanstead Community Gardeners have taken over a number of flower beds along the high street and by the station. However, despite a ridiculously large number of bins some people seem incapable of putting their litter in them. So team GG were asked to clean up the beds and restore them to their full beauty.

Armed with head torches and gardening gloves the team set off down the road, splitting up to cover all the areas as quickly as possible. While much of the rubbish was the usual beer cans and litter, Alice and Tim found four (broken) bike likes and a pen knife in the bushes outside the station - a healthy reminder to be careful when locking bikes in the area.

With the team working hard to clear the beds everything was done and dusted within 30 minutes leaving plenty of time for getting fit. With resident tour guide, Tina, leading the way the group headed out for an 8km run around the streets including a tough bridge climb alongside the North Circular.

Big shout out to Tim who is rapidly approaching 50 runs and this brought him closer to that special black t-shirt.
