Rain, rain go away Goodgym want to come out to play. It never worked.............it was drizzling in Bexley last night and not to pleasant, but the evening soon brightened up as the team signed in at the Crooklog sports centre for tonights session. Tonight was American sports night. Yep, you heard right. We started the evening with a fun but tough work out, NFL & NBA style. After our usual warm up it was down to business. Two teams were formed. It started with touch downs. Both teams sprinting to the cones and pointing them towards the opposing team. This goes on for 30 seconds with the team with the most cones pointing in the other teams direction taking the touch down. This moved into the 'line backer' shuttle sprints, a sprint session over varied distances, all decided by the first team to complete. Boy, that one was close. Oh, no, it wasn't over yet.......... Next, the teams were introduced to side shuffle take downs. One player from each team starts in the centre of two cones and shuffles for 30 secs between the them scoring 1 point for each cone touched. The teams then change players and do the same again. The winning team is the one with the most cones touched. Hard, yep, but so much fun competition as no one wants to lose. It was then over to the NBA defence drill to finish. The rules. Everyone in squat position. I point left, you shuffle left. Point right, you shuffle right. I shout defence, you slap the floor with your hands. I shout shot, the players have to jump to block the shot. Boooooom!!! BEXLEY you smashed the fitness session tonight. With smiles of fun and accomplishment it was time to get the leaflets out across Bexleyheath. We headed out along the side streets weaving in and out of peoples drives spreading the word of our awesome local organisations and charities. Within 30 minutes of running we were left empty handed with a job well done. To make the return trip back to base more interesting i got the guys to do a tempo drill. This involved a slow jog, but on my command (between two lamp posts) i'd shout push it. With this you could run as fast as you wanted between the two posts, and then take it back down to a slower jog until the next time i called push it. This added a great end to tonights run and training It also go us back to base a lot quicker ;-) Big shout out to all the gang that made it out in the rain, well done. Until next week......... Tim
