Must admit I’ve become quite fond of my “coach” as an Age UK Volunteer Befriender. So it was a bit upsetting when I arrived a couple of weeks ago (under Age UK rules I have been allowed to keep visiting while GG coach runs were barred) and found a newspaper sticking out of the door and no reply. A quick call to Age UK base soon established JJ had been taken to hospital after a fall. JJ has recovered and is now home but as JJs memory was bad before and I know older people are often more confused after a stay in hospital I was concerned she might not recognise me. JJ didn’t immediately know who I was when her carer showed me in but straight away her face lit up and she said “I’ve seen you before” Pretty soon things started coming back to her and we were chatting away like old times. I’ve always felt she enjoyed our visits I now realise I enjoy them just as much.
