Mission

It’s been weedly nice getting to mow you

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Richmond.

Both on a weekend of long runs and GoodGym coach visits and missions, David and Samia met along the street to Mr R’s in Richmond.

Mr R showed us through to the back garden, briefed us on the tasks that needed doing (the lawn put in order, trees trimmed, borders weeded), and we got cracking enthusiastically (enthusiasm levels were super-high courtesy of the tea offering).

David got to use not one, not two, but three power tools, all colour-coordinated perfectly with his green socks and the garden furniture. First he got his hands on the luminous strimmer, followed by some mowing and then his grand finale, the leaf blower. Samia, on the other hand, didn’t embrace such cutting-hedge technology, sticking to the basics with a pair of secateurs and a weeding trowel thing. Not one to stand for no good reason, Samia stuck to her tradition of finding a way to sit down to do the task.

We were parted at one point, with David being taken to the front gardening for further weedage, but we were once again reunited after Samia had raked it and leaft it in the back garden.

But the learning from today is that a mission with David comes with his magic trick: last round saw the Mission of the Multiplying Boxes, and this time David didn’t disappoint with the Breeding Bin Bags. They just kept appearing, one after another. He says it’s the beneficiary bringing them out, but I’m starting to wonder...
