Over the course of two days, 10 volunteers strove to spruce up a new home for the Snowdrop charity. The house is to be used to rehome a lady and her kids. The dwelling was already full of belongings, making the task of decorating that much harder.

The house was to be painted white on the majority of its interior walls. This meant navigating the cluttered items on the floor and trying not to trip over other people whilst doing so. We used old curtains to cover the belongings piled up throughout the living space. The curtains also served to cover the fixings in the kitchen as well as the carpets.

"Painted love!"

James and another volunteer painted the kitchen together. The blinds were removed to enable easy access to the window area. Luckily these were just on a spring release, so easily removed and refitted.

The extractor fan hood was also removed, though it was already splattered with paint from previous coatings. After the kitchen was finished we moved on to the living room where cupboards and walls needed recoating in dazzling white. One of the cupboards had been painted in such a way that it no longer opened, requiring some brute force to leverage the door from it's glossy housing. The freeing of the door also freed some of the new paint, which then had to be redone.

After moving one of the biggest televisions I have ever seen (to make more space for us) we headed into the garden for lunch. We were joined here by a very confident neighborhood cat who got fed tuna and biscuits by jumping right onto our laps.

Back in painting land Rachel had brushed her way to the top of the stairs. Colour me impressed!

When all the painting was finished we washed some bits of equipment and wrapped other bits in clingfilm for use touching up sections which may need an extra coat.
