This event was organised by Transition Kentish Town (and funded by a mysterious funder who I didn't get the details of). The location was Camden Shed, a workshop that provides woodworking lessons for about 40 local community members, some of who are vulnerable.

The aim was to make bird boxes and insect "hotels" to give to local schools who are involved in "rewilding" their school property. There's various other organisations involved, such as Camden Forest and Beeline. I think the people at Transition have also been working with our arch rivals, GreenGym (kidding). All in all it was a group of wholesome people doing a lovely thing for nature, and learning!

The wood was already cut for the boxes but we did all get to use the big circular saw to finish off some pieces. Then we went through the stages step by step to make the boxes. I learnt lots of things, such as how to use an electric screwdriver without damaging the head. Also, I'm really bad at hammering.

Once we finished the bird boxes we felt like pros. We were running a little late but we had time to quickly put together the bug hotels. They were much simpler than the bird box and it was fun arranging the pine cones and bamboo to create a nice insect environment.

I went to the morning session, after which they provided a lovely lunch. After that I left and Alison arrived to represent Goodgym at the afternoon session.
