Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Rob Haworth
Round 2 of the Ham parade flower bed wheel thing mission and this time there were double the numbers of GoodGymers in attendance. Maybe it was the smells of the bacon and sausage bap stand drawing them over or the fancy houmous stall at Ham parade Market, but whatever it was, it was sure great to have more hands on deck. Unfortunately the volunteers last time ran out of time and hands so the wheel isn't quite finished, but there were still herbs to plant and jobs to do. A couple of ton bags of rubble and stone for the concrete mixture were left over and needed to be split down into smaller bags to make it easier to transport elsewhere. Splitting into teams, the race was on. Kate and Freya took on Rob and Chris, and with some friendly competition we soon emptied both bags. Next job was the herb planting, and with them all carefully laid out in their designated spot we set to work digging them into the ground. Chris built a dirt castle for the sunflower in the middle and Freya showed off her knowledge of forts vs castles. Rob went off to check out the pie stand in the market and Kate took advantage of the old flower containers and mini greenhouses for her class project. One person's junk is another person's school resource! With just a little bit of over time we got all the herbs in the ground and gave each one a bit of water to get them started. We will be back again soon to help finish the job but so far so good and the Ham Parade herb garden is wheely starting to take shape.
