I’ve Done 99 Good Deeds, of Which This is One

1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Hammersmith and Fulham.

My first consideration when writing this run report was the try to fit the words into the lyrics of the well known songs by either a famous rapper married to Beyoncé, or a German lady who sings about balloons being UFO’s. Both attempts were short lived and scrapped soon after they were even started. Writing a rap or otherwise isn’t easy (Kudos to Team Nash who totally delivered with lyrics such as ‘This goes out for Mr Speedy J, the second fastest man on Brook Green 5k’).

I managed as far as changing Nena’s words to ‘99 good deeds done, I can’t think of a clever pun’, before giving up. Then, I thought to try clever rhymes again, but wasn’t sure I could repeat the dazzling poetry of my previous run report (an epic about queuing outside of Waitrose). Perhaps a limerick? ‘I did a mission for Mrs A, To get the shopping for her today, Went to the store, Got pasta and more, Then delivered it all to her okay.’ Maybe not. Anyway. I digress.

So here we are. To cut a long story short, I left the house this morning as the red arrows flew overhead (Happy VE Day all), which was excellent timing on either mine or the RAF’s behalf. Then I ran to the shops, having rang Ms A previously to obtain her shopping list. It was a warm day (by warm, I mean I left a small puddle of sweat in the queue to get inside the store), and was thoroughly disappointed that Iceland was not made of ice. I purchased most of the things on her list, although there was a distinct lack of pasta and cereal here, so I had to pop into the Co-op to hunt for carbs. Shopping completed, drop off done, thanks received from Ms A (who didn’t even seem to mind that the only breakfast food they had in the whole of West Kensington was bran flakes, it seems), and then restarted my Garmin and got moving again.

Running back, my watch buzzed 11:00, so I quickly pulled over for two minutes silence, or attempted silence, as there was probably a lot of huffing and catching of breath being done incidentally. Once I’d taken some time to think about what our predecessors had done for us to allow us freedom today, and the celebrations they must have had back in 1945 (I miss the pub) I sprinted off, to finish my 5k.

So that is my run report for the task. I hope that the two people that read it enjoy it, and I hope to think of something spectacular and stupendous and stunning for the big 1 - 0 - 0 which I imagine will be coming up soon. Whether that’s another solo shopping mission, or a first group run back with all my friends from Hammersmith and Fulham, there will be cake. As for whether I share it or not, is another question.

So pretend I’m Jay-Z, hit me.

I’ve done 99 good deeds, of which this was one.
