9 GoodGymers took on a 4k run and navigated Haringey’s streets in search of benches to stain at the Lordship Rec

Shouts out to Dashing Dave for holding the fort last week

As the red T’s began to congregate in the reception area of Tottenham Green Leisure Centre we readied ourselves for the run and task at hand. A quick briefing and warm up commenced before hitting the streets in search of this week's light – Joan over at the rec and her benches that needed staining. Just as we were about to leave we spotted Dave dashing across the grass in his work clothes. Off we set and conversation seemed to flow nicely amongst GGers as they made their way along Philip Lane.

En route to the rec we stopped off for a quick bridge pic before maintaining a steady pace across the three groups of runners. With myself and Antonia up front and a very fresh faced Ollie marking the back. Each little group ran at a pace that was comfortable to them. Dave’s place was along our planned route so he dashed in and got changed then caught up with us just as we arrived at the Hub Café in the rec. We don’t call him Dashing Dave for nothing.

5 more benches done

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Joan who got us the wood stain, maps and brushes we’d need for the task. We then dished everything out along with gloves and everyone choose a bench plotted on their map and off they dashed... but not without a little reminder that there would be no walking to a chosen bench =D That done I helped Joan stash the box of brushes etc and before long Dashing Dave was dashing toward me in the need of some wet paint signage which I actually had in my hands ready to distribute – great minds ey DD. As expected the team wasted no in getting stuck in and managed to get 5 more benches done. I might add that the benches looked so much better after a lick of paint - wood stain. Marianne and Cassie even went as far as staining a rather lonely looking bin that was clearly in need of some GGH TLC.

As time began to run out we packed up then headed back to the Hub Café to drop off the brushes etc and get ready for our return run. After saying farewell to Joan and a round of high fives we were off again. Each slipping back into our little group. As we got to the mini roundabout at the junction of Philip and Downhills Park Road we re grouped and I told everyone that this was the home straight and we should all push ourselves to run at our max pace but to save a little something for the sprint finish. Everyone put in a great effort here – fast bunch. That done we regrouped for our warm down before heading off home to feed the bellies and as everyone worked so hard I think a little ice cream was allowed.

Until next week folks. ** Do good – keep fit and look out for the light.**
