One of the latest projects from our friends at Wanstead Community Gardeners is a strip of derelict land at the edge of the Snaresbrook station car park. Several GG'ers joined in recently to dig over the soil, remove rubbish & stones etc, at which point we came across a defunct thick power cable. Not having the right kind of heavy duty tools, we left it, with an improvised marker to make sure it could be found again.

Having borrowed some bigger toys from work, this morning I popped back to see what could be done and am happy to report back that the obstructing cable is now no longer protruding, but cut back and hidden out of the way. Fingers crossed this will be sufficient for planting, awaiting feedback from chief Marian!
