9 runners headed to Penny Pie Park to widen the footpath!

We started by giving Josh a massive cheer as his 8 week parkrun PB streak continues, awesome work Josh!

Our task was to widen the fabulous recycled tyre path in the park. Since it was laid, the grass had started to grow over the path, making the walkway narrower for park users.

It wasn't until we started scraping back the sides of the path with spades that was realised how much had been lost. It was about 40-50cm on each side of the path! Sharon - back after a bit of a break - gave it some welly with a brilliant deep-squat digging technique.

Josh managed to create a brand new and innovative technique which was sort of, digging with a pair of loppers... and was surprisingly effective.

With everybody digging deep and working hard, it took us less than 30 minutes to widen the whole section of path on both sides. Jane, the Chair of the Penny Pie Park Community Group, was amazed at how quickly it had been done and was excited about what else she could get us to do in the future!

We ran back to Shaw Lane to complete a mega core fitness session including:

  • balance exercises
  • limb extension
  • forward to back lunges
  • plank variations
  • side plank variations
  • reverse plank
  • partner plank and burpee challenge
  • pair sit ups

....and we finished off with a press-up challenge just for Grace!

Another good deed done in Barnsley, excellent work team!
