9 awesome runners ran 2km to tag clothes and tidy up at the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice charity shop!

Another fantastic evening! We had two new recruits last night courtesy of Amy & Alex bullying their friends into coming along ;) Thanks guys!! Christian & Jo, hope you had a good time and come back soon! (Jo - don't worry, you don't have to come back to Greenwich but certainly check out Bath and Bristol GoodGyms!)

Stuck in the mud!!

We started as we always do with a warm up on the grass. Since we were a decent sized group again this week, I thought we could all relive our schooldays and play a good old fashioned game of stuck in the mud for the warm up! Turns out school was a lot longer ago than I thought and I'd completely forgotten how to play. I cast my mind back to year 6 and then it all came flooding back. So we had two people who were IT and they were the ones who had the power to tag people and get them stuck in the mud! As soon as someone got tagged they had to stand in a star position and to get unstuck you had to crawl under their legs! Sooo much fun! In hindsight it was probably quite heavy going as a warmup as people were pretty much sprinting from the moment I shouted go hahaha but it was fun nonetheless! A few runs up and down the steps and judging by the panting from the group, everyone was pretty well warmed up by this point!

Another short run again this week. We set off down the main road for about a kilometre until we reached Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice charity shop on the corner. The lovely Jane had already worked a 12 hour shift that day but was kind enough to keep the shop open for us to do some good for them. Jane was super organised and had three rooms for us to use so we split into three teams, one team to tag and price clothes downstairs, one team to tag upstairs and then one team to tidy the shop floor! Amy and Jo got their tagging guns at the ready. Tagging and sizing the clothes was relatively straightforward however valuing and pricing each item was a little more challenging! Taking into account the condition of the garment and the brand etc all came into play as well as getting into the mindset of a potential customer from the area imagining what they would pay for it. After they'd done a few items, Amy and Jo were pretty much ready to set up their own shop!

Meanwhile upstairs more tagging and hanging was going on by Marcus, Dom and Simona. Once the items were ready, they were passed onto Alex, Ben and Christian to be put out onto the shop floor. An amazing amount of cleaning was also being done by these guys! Dusting, picture straightening (Ben clearly has a little bit of OCD!) and Christian even hoovered the whole building! NICE WORK!!! Jane was so, so happy and impressed at the amount that got done last night. She mentioned that they have been really struggling for volunteers recently so you guys really made a huge, huge difference.

So we hung the last few clothes up, packed up the hoover, had a group photo (obviously) and said our goodbyes. We followed Amy a different (and much nicer) route back along the river and arrived back for the Olympics themed fitness session!

Human hurdles!!!

The first exercise used core strength as well as explosive strength and speed in HUMAN HURDLES. Everyone lined up about a metre apart in plank position whilst the person at the end jumped over each one channeling their inner Jess Ennis. Once they had jumped over everyone, they would then get into a plank at the end of the line and the next person would go!

Next we used an imaginary track for some sprints and high fives followed by a little relay competition! Hey it is the Olympics so I had go bring out the competitive spirit in you guys! But you all did amazing (medals will be sent out to the winning team in the post*)!

After all that sprinting, it was time for a nice stretch and then we parted ways.

Really great job yesterday everyone! It would have taken them hours to get done what you did in half an hour so give yourselves a pat on the back! See you next week!

*only joking
