It was a quiet evening at Highbury Pool this Easter Monday, but 6 of us felt guilty enough about the over-indulgence to make it down to GoodGym Islington for a run and a good deed. Especially Annie who had been eating all day.

Welcome to first-timers Kat (who reckons no subject should be ineligible for debate at GG Islington! Controversial. What do you think? Join us next week to debate this pressing question) and Christie. Great to have you along.

We jogged the 2.5k up to Whittington Park Community Association having a non-controverisal light-hearted chat/debate on the way about whether or not Hot Cross Buns were better with or without raisins. Results: 5 of us preferred our sugary breaded delights to contain dried fruit. Only Christie liked them plain. Simon and Masami went slightly off topic and Simon also got a good recipe for Oyake-donburi Yum!

Once at the task we grabbed gloves and brooms and five of us set about weeding and sweeping up the grounds and gutters of the community centre while Masami got stuck in to sanding the planters outside the cafe. This looked like so much fun we all grabbed a sheet of sandpaper and helped out.

25 minutes later we bagged up our rubbish and things were certainly looking a bit neater and tidier and spring cleanier so we hopped over the fence to do our Easter Circuits.

In three teams of two we set about tackling the three-stage course. First task was an "egg and spoon" leg - with real boiled eggs and silver spoons (that were not stolen from a service station). Second was "bunny hops" and third was a good old fashioned run before tagging your partner and letting them repeat.

Simon and Christie finished first, but we were all winners because it was time for .... a biscuit? NO! Time for Hot Cross Buns. Freshly baked in the afternoon, buns were distributed according to attendee's fruit or no fruit preferences (althought the uneven distribution of raisins meant that Christie actually ended up getting dried fruit after all. Sorry Christie)

Fully refuelled it was time to head back. We did a few strides en route and practiced running tall before having a final blast up the hill to the crescent where we relaxed with a gentle stretch before realising that the pool had shut early and poor Ben's gear was stuck inside! We managed to get him home and housemates let him in, but that's one to remember for the future.

Well done all. See you next week

Simon
