Upon arrival, we were greeted by fellow volunteers, as Peter was busy on a phone call. The team of volunteers were busy talking to the homeless who come to the BCDP to receive food and hot drinks, so GG was happy to help with this until Peter was available. It was "souper" to be able to lend a hand in this way.

When Peter was available we were shown to the storage building on the opposite side of the street where we would be doing our task for the evening. There was a whole room full of donated bin bags and rucksacks filled with donated items. Our job was to empty the bags and sort the donated items into different crates to be assessed and redistributed at a later time. Contents included food stuffs, clothing and toiletries. The items were sorted into the following categories; hats, gloves, socks, jackets, jumpers, trousers, t-shirts, toiletries and non perishable foods. There were a vast amount of socks, making for some "Happy Feet". Approximately 25 full bags were emptied and sorted into the crates. This really helps Peter and the other volunteers as they don't have the time to be sorting through the massive amount of donations that they receive. It really frees them up to be working 1 on 1 with the clients who come to the drop-ins.

After a long sorting session, goodbyes and thanks were exchanged, and it was back out into the cold for the short run back.

We'll definitely be back on a regular basis!
