As the evening descended and the searing summer temperature began to drop ever so slightly, Jer and Meyrick met on the banks of the River Avon. So began an epic bicycle journey that took us from urban central Bath, just over the river from Lidl and eventually back to where we started.

We left the River to take a bicycle friendly route through Bath and along Pulteney Street, whereafter we joined the canal and headed out towards Bathampton. We met Aaron at The George just before 7pm, and continued along the Kennet and Avon Canal as a trio, first stop Dundas Aqueduct. A wonder of engineering, this waterway was designed by John Rennie and completed in 1805 and carries the canal over both the railway and the River Avon as it heads towards Avoncliff and Bradford-on-Avon and beyond.

Leaving the canal our route then took us through Monkton Combe village and along the relatively car-free country lanes to Midford. We took a quick break for water in the car park of The Hope and Anchor before joining the two tunnels route back towards Bath. After the heat of the summer evening air, the tunnels were a welcome relief; utterly cooling and thankfully not too busy.

This was the home stretch and it was sad to know the ride was coming to an end, but after well over 20km and almost an hour and a half of cycling it was time to head home. In such good company I would thoroughly recommend this activity and would love to do it again.
