Its toad season in Maidenhead! This mission was all about helping the toad families, so why not make it a family affair!

Husband and wife team Amy and James Lovell headed down on bikes to help baby toadlets crossing the road from the lake to their new home in Deerswood Meadow. They helped approximately 200 of the little critters.

The Lovells also bumped into Nicola Porter, who was a toad pioneer for GoodGym earlier in the week. She had come back for more and roped in her mum Cathy, who also arrived on 2 wheels and is now the proud owner of a GoodGym profile.

It seems this is quite an addictive activity as other runners have also made repeat visits. bringing their own humanlets with them.

While we're getting up close and personal with these creatures, here are a few fun toad facts:

  • Toads are usually nocturnal
  • They typically live 3-5 years in the wild, but one toad in captivity made it to an incredible 39 years
  • Toads don't have teeth so they just swallow things whole
  • The collective noun for toads is a knot
  • Toads normally hibernate in winter
