On a very hot evening, nine GoodGym runners turned up at Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness including newcomers Kim and Chandee. Welcome!

The task was to help the Friends of Tottenham Green in the library garden. Now this is around the back next to the fitness centre just a few steps away but we are a running group so we added a few more steps by running around the block through the Tottenham Conservation Area.

Once we arrived at the garden we discovered the lock had been changed! While Laura went to get us access we did a bit of litter picking - there was a surprising number of bottles lurking in the bushes near the railway line. After gaining access we quickly split into groups with one working on making an arch out of buddleia which mostly involved some quite aggressive pruning, others raking and sweeping up bits that a large tree keeps dropping onto the gravel and path beneath, and one group starting to dig over a part of the garden we had cleared previously. We were all instructed to keep clear of the giant hogweed, which actually wasn't very giant but can still be very dangerous, causing chemical burns to skin if you get too close!

Rockin' robin

All of that digging unearthed a few worms - Dave was just pointing one out when a robin flitted in and gobbled it up! The robin stayed close by for the rest of the session.

The task over, we split into teams of two for a tic tac toe relay. Players had to sprint to place a bean bag in the grid before sprinting back and tagging their partner. Suddenly a simple childhood game gets a lot harder!

After returning the tools to the storage room, a few stretches and those all-important Haringey High Fives we were off home in the sun!

Credit to Dave both for his first halfway decent pun and also for leading our merry band tonight.

Haringey Task Force member Emily wasn't with us today because she is getting ready to run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday - run strong Emily! Head over and give her a cheer.

We have a great team going to the GoodGym Olympics on 10 June. It's too late to join the athletics team but you can still enter the cake competition on the day. We also need a flag! Cathy has made us a brilliant design and we need to make it reality - who has hidden crafty talents? Or just likes cut and stick? Sarah has offered space and food at her flat near Seven Sisters. Indicate your availability here - please tick all of the times you can make it. We'll put a party listing up with the most popular and email you the address.
