It was a chilly Tuesday evening but that didn't stop a group of GoodGym volunteers from running to St Phillips and James' Church to help them with their advent display.

Welcome, Phoebe!

We met inside the leisure centre and welcomed a new runner to the group, Phoebe. Thanks for coming along to help us out last night, Phoebe, and we hope you will be back to run with us again soon!

Well done on 50, Rob, and we are sorry to see you go!

Both sad and happy at the same time, we said a massive congratulations to Rob who was earning his 50th good deed with GoodGym but also a fond farewell as it was his last task before moving away from Bath. We hope you will come back and visit us soon and make sure to take your black '50 good deed' shirts on your travels!

Up the hills we go!

After a warm-up we made our way up Holloway and Wells Way to the church. This is one of our longer runs (at 3.5km each way) and definitely one of our hilliest routes, so we made sure we clubbed together and made it up as a team. It was fantastic training for us and we were rewarded with some fantastic night time views over the city.

It p'aint what you do its the way that you do it!

This week we were continuing a task we started a few weeks ago. We have been helping the volunteers at the church to paint their Christmas advent display. It is going to be a larger-than-life-sized advent calender with the theme "The King is coming". Different community groups are able to have their own drawing behind each of the advent doors. A few weeks ago we started painting the background and we were asked to pick up where we left off.

Some of us were painting the middle section of the board. It was mesmerising to see an image materialise before us as we painted more and more of it. What was most surprising was to see a few streaks of dark blue turn into the legs of a donkey!

Another group focused on painting the doors (hence the pun!) that are going to be attached to the structure and will be opened each day as the calendar ticks over towards December 25th.

Overall it was a really fun evening painting blue, yellow and gold! We spoke about how relaxing and therapeutic it is to spend time painting to end a day, and also how GoodGym is a great way to look after our mental health.

Thanks!

We thanked Andy and the other volunteers for offering us this opportunity and for providing some great snacks and drinks to replenish us (especially the awesome home made cake!). We have been offered a day in the calendar and we will go and see our image on display as part of another group run in December when we are heading to that part of town.

Thanks to Chris for back marking for us and thanks to Ruth for the pun this week!
