20 do-gooders met to run 4km and help Alara with mulching and weeding!

In the GG Camden news this week:

  • We have a new DBS process, if you have had your check in the last 6 months we need to redo it - more details of what you need to bring here.
  • We had a lot of runners do the City Mile on Sunday, well done!
  • It was PSB's birthday last Friday, she is amazing and just about to start coach running!
  • GoodGym monthly drinks will be QE roof garden which we have helped to turf for the last 3 years. Amazing space and fantastic to use a task as a socialising space, more details here.
  • More PSB news, she is organising training sessions for the next 4 weeks, go along - it'll be awesome - learning some running fundamentals! Sign up for the first one here.

After a warm up we were off to Alara, which is an amazing organisation who aim to produce very high quality, tasty, healthy and innovative mueslis. Organic muesli is the natural way to fulfil this desire. They also look after the Kings Cross Orchard Project and are a collection point for compost all over the Camden borough!

Mulch time!

Once we arrived there the taskowner Vlad explained we needed to weed around one section of orchards and mulch another section. The process of mulching involves:

  • Laying cardboard (with no stickers/plastic on) around the trees but making sure to not touch the actual tree
  • Then spreading compost on top of the cardboard and around the trees

The process of mulching is important as it stops any weeds from growing in the immediate areas around the orchards, meaning they produce better fruit and are protected from harm!

We raked/spread compost, shovelled, wheelbarrowed, weeded and more - well done team!

Museli in hand!

After smashing the task we headed to granary square (we muesli in hand) to do a fitness session:

  • We first played fitness drill tag where someone demonstrated an exercise and the rest of the group all did it while the tagged demonstrator did an out and back run.

  • Next we did some progressive running around Granary Square (apparently a rectangle), on every right turn the group picked up the pace, with the last straight being race pace!

Thanks to everyone who came, really amazing night as always!

Sign up for next week's run here, we are off to Skip Garden and St Mary's Flats to do some gardening and spread some pebbles!
